About

First, what this site is not:

This site is not a blog. It is not a resume, or a shop, or (primarily) a “portfolio”.

It’s a garden. It’s an experiment.

The ecstatic web

I grew up in the 90’s. I learned programming because I wanted to figure out how to make a MySpace page look cool. I spent time meeting people randomly on ICQ. For all the eyesore and excess of the web then, and as much as seeing any of my old designs would make me cringe now, there was a spirit of excitement and vibrancy. The overly customized splash pages with walls of GIFs, personalized cursors, and mismatched fonts were a sign of an energetic experimentation with digital culture and identity.

I don’t want to replicate the cluttered MySpace pages of my past, but I want to engage in the same spirit of ecstatic creativity. More to come at #internet.

On Knowledge and State

In building this space, I originally started out with a pretty typical blog template. Everything was oriented around posts and authorship. I decided to rip a bunch of that out and rework it around pages and their connections. Maybe I’ll regret it later, but for now it feels right.

I’m experimenting with knowledge and experience as journeys of growth. The path matters and I think it makes sense to see it in one place. I’ll share what sorts of things I’m working on and what I’m reading and (soon) what I’m learning and trying to understand. Pages will update with new info from time to time.
